We've always believed that the things you use every day should be worth using.
That's the idea behind our candles and wax melts — intentional, well-made, and built around fragrance that actually means something. So when we started thinking about what came next for Backbone, the answer felt obvious.
Your sink deserves the same attention.
Backbone Foaming Hand Soap is live now in limited quantities. four scents and one completely fragrance-free — all built on a base we're genuinely proud of.
Why We Started With the Base
Before we picked a single fragrance, we spent time finding the right foundation. That's how we do everything here.
The base we landed on leads with aloe vera — not water, not alcohol, not a long list of fillers. Aloe vera, first. From there, it's formulated with Vitamin E and a blend of gentle, biodegradable cleansing agents that produce a rich, dense foam without stripping your hands dry.
What it doesn't have matters just as much:
- No phthalates
- No parabens
- No harsh chemicals
- Vegan and cruelty-free
- Prop 65 compliant
This is the same care we bring to every product we make. Hand-crafted in small batches in Evansdale, Iowa. No shortcuts.
Meet the Scents
We kept the first run focused — four scents that made immediate sense for a hand soap, each one already proven in our candle and wax melt lineup.
Golden Bloom — Essentials Collection
Some scents make a room feel cared for. This is one of them.
Golden Bloom opens with bright bergamot and tangerine, settles into soft nectarine blossom, and finishes with warm musk and amber. Light without being forgettable. The kind of scent guests notice without being able to place it.
Best at the bathroom sink. The one that makes visitors ask what that smell is.

Lemon Drift — Essentials Collection
The kitchen sink has been waiting for this one.
Lemon Drift opens clean and sharp — lemon and mint, exactly right for hands that just finished something. It softens into white flowers mid-way, then finishes with a light ambrette and musk that fades clean. Nothing lingering that shouldn't be there.
Crisp. Uncomplicated. Built for the sink that works hardest.

Oatmeal Milk + Honey — Signature Collection
For the sink that gets used the most.
This one starts soft — gentle almond and oats, warm and clean. The heart brings in tonka bean, smooth and quietly sweet. The base is where it settles: honey, vanilla bean, and musk. Nourishing without overdoing it.

Bergamot + Sandalwood — Reserve Collection
For people who know exactly what they want next to their sink.
Bright bergamot and violet open things up, moving into sandalwood-grounded florals with real weight behind them. The base is earthy and dry — patchouli and pine, keeping the whole thing rooted and composed.
Refined without being fussy. This one's for the guest bathroom, the home office, anywhere the details matter.

Plain & Honest — Essentials Collection
No fragrance. No extras. Just clean.
Some people want great soap without the scent — sensitive skin, fragrance preferences, or just a sink where simplicity is the point. Plain & Honest is the same aloe vera-first base, the same Vitamin E, the same rich foam. Nothing added in the way of fragrance.
Fragrance-free. Phthalate-free. Paraben-free. Honest about exactly what it is.
A Note on Availability
This is a limited first run. We wanted to get the soap into hands — literally — before we scale up. If your scent sells out, we'll be restocking based on demand.
If you're local to the Evansdale area, pickup is available as always.
What's Next
We're already thinking about a larger 12oz size and a travel-friendly 2oz for events and gift sets. We're also exploring refillable pouches for customers who want to restock without buying a whole new bottle. More scents are possible as the lineup grows. For now, we wanted to keep it focused and get it right.
