For Everyone
Accessibility Statement
Backbone Craft Co is a small, Iowa-based candle and home-fragrance business, and we want this site to work for everyone who visits it -- whether you're shopping on a phone, navigating by keyboard, or using a screen reader. We treat accessibility as an ongoing commitment, not a finished checklist. This page reflects the real, most recent results of our automated testing below -- every number comes directly from that scan, generated mechanically with no manual editing or AI-generated claims.
Our Commitment
We test this site against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at the AA level. That means readable color contrast, keyboard-navigable controls, descriptive image text, and clear, structured page layouts. We know we won't always be perfect, but we review every report we receive and keep improving.
What We've Done
- A "Skip to content" link so keyboard users can bypass repeated navigation.
- Visible focus outlines on every interactive control, not just the ones browsers style by default.
- Semantic landmarks and heading structure so screen readers can navigate the page directly.
- Descriptive alt text on product and content images.
- A responsive layout that adapts from phone to desktop.
- Respect for your browser's text size and zoom -- we never disable pinch-to-zoom.
How This Is Tested
Every week, an automated scan runs axe-core against representative page templates on this site, at both desktop and mobile viewport sizes, using a real browser (Playwright). Automated testing catches many, but not all, accessibility issues, so this is paired with periodic manual review.
Current status
Last automated scan: 2026-11-02 (tested against WCAG 2.2 Level AA)
- 34 page/viewport combinations scanned across 17 distinct page templates
- 0 critical, 11 serious finding(s)
- 34 moderate, 0 minor finding(s)
Known accepted exceptions
-
aria-allowed-role on .shopify-dns-link-icon (minor)
Shopify-platform-injected icon next to the footer's California Consumer Privacy Act link, not theme-owned markup. Confirmed 2026-09-28.
-
"list" rule false positive on shared overflow-list component
Known axe-core bug (dequelabs/axe-core#5028): the rule checks a shadow tree's literal children, not what's assigned through its <slot>s. The underlying markup is a correctly-flattened accessible list.
-
region on .asw-trigger-title (moderate)
A real bug (not a tooling false positive) in the third-party "Access Pro" ADA/accessibility-widget app's own trigger button, which renders outside any landmark region on every page. This is app-injected markup, not theme code, so there's nothing to fix here directly -- flagged to the app vendor. Confirmed 2026-09-29.
