You smell it before you even open the door.

There's a kitchen somewhere in your memory that smelled exactly like this — someone standing over a stove on a Saturday morning in October, cranberry and apple breaking down in a heavy pot, cinnamon sticks floating on top, orange zest on the cutting board. The whole house warm from it. Not a candle-store version of that morning. The actual thing.

It opens bright — greens, orange zest, and cinnamon rising off the heat before you've even set your bag down. Then the heart of it settles in: tart cranberry sauce and sweet apple jam cooking together, the way they do when they've been going long enough to know what they want to be. Clove comes in underneath, quiet and sure. Vanilla and woods round it out — the warmth that lingers in a kitchen long after the jars have been sealed and set on the shelf.
